Outline:
Suddenly this kneeling, filthy man caused all of my attention to pivot upon him when he grabbed my hand. I was just opening my mouth to warn him that he would surely be killed...no one was allowed to touch me, Princess Nia, without permission. My protesting words were replaced with a swift intake of breath as the soldier produced a strange-looking dagger and drug it lightly over my finger.
I stared in wonderment as he gently squeezed my fingertip to produce just one red ball of blood, my blood. Then the man kneeling before me swiped the blood from my finger with his own and plunged it into his mouth. "Your blood is now my blood. Your world is now my world. Your life is now my life," were the words he chanted...

My thoughts:
Nia is a smart, and sassy Princess.
Nia is engaged to Andras- the love of her life. Andras is learning everything he can from Nia's father, the King, so if the time comes and Nia has no choice to be queen, he can be involved with being a king.
When a neighboring kingdom is conquered by Nia's kingdom, Nia is presented a life-long gift.
One she never asked for, nor dreamt of ever having- a personal guard who would shadow her for the rest of her life.
Nia is not happy with this arrangement, but has no choice. She's to walk all her days with her shadow- a large, quiet man, named Garreth.
This novel presents a head-strong woman, who has a slight chip on her shoulder about a couple things.
Garreth is high on the list.
Even though Garreth is her shadow, he is a kind man, who will never have the opportunity to have a family of his own. He will never have anything for his own in his life. Just a life of service to Nia.
Nia tries to free Garreth, but he is bound to keep his honorable station as her shadow. It would offend Garreth, and the other kingdom, if she doesn't accept this "gift".
Also, Nia is given some duties she's to attend too in her kingdom. Duties that were handed to her through fate. She would rather see to the sick in her kingdom, then do "castle" work.
This novel is about struggle, friendship, love, danger, and triumph. I loved reading this wonderful tale of Nia. Mella Reese has a talent of writing- especially with description to characters.
I will be looking for more books to come by Mella Reese. If she were to write more about Nia, that would be very exciting. Thank you, Ms. Reese, for sending me your novel. I truly enjoyed it, and loved what you've created in Nia.

2 Royal Remarks:
Enjoyed the review. I already have a copy and I'm looking forward to reading Nia.
Let me start with a sincere "I'm sorry" about the unexpected passing of your dear father. Life can be very hard at times, cant' it? I pray for peace and comfort for your family.
Secondly, thank you for your thoughtful and positive review. You totally made my day! There are two other books in the "Nia" series---am just finishing the final edit on the second book now.
Thank you again for taking the time to read my literary baby. :)
