Cabin Fever

We have "cabin fever'! It's contagious ya know. :)

Most of Warrens' {my husband} growing up years and childhood memories were while living in a -now abandoned- home on a family ranch in northern Arizona. His parents used to have a renter caring for the home- but now nobody occupies it.

Warren' s parents live in Washington state so they can't care for the home. We live in Phoenix and Show Low is 3 hours up in the north country. As you know how the temperatures in Phoenix reach in the summer months- you can value the thought that getting AWAY to any cooler location is ideal. We have always wanted a cabin in cooler country for summer or weekend getaways. So...with Warren's parents permission we now have a cabin to work on! It's for anyone in his family who wants to use it but mind you that it needs tons of work until it's an 'official cabin'.

Warren and I have put in chronological order the things that need to be done:

First we have to replace the roof- at least one area of the roof.

Then we plan to power wash every nook and cranny of the interior and exterior of the home.

The next desperate step is ripping up the horrid carpet and linoleum. We plan on putting down Pergo {a fake hard wood floor} all over the cabin- except the bathrooms and laundry room, which will be coordinating tile.

Though, we can't lay the Pergo and tile down until we are finished remodeling the interior. The foundation of the home is pretty good- but all the counter tops, toilets, bathtubs, sinks, doors, fixtures etc... all will be replaced.

To make it inviting and beautiful-we will paint the entire interior.

Once all the interior is done we hope to cover the exterior with logs so that it will look like a real cabin. So cute!

The outside property needs TLC as well. Some landscaping will need to be done. We have some neat ideas in that department.

The final touch will be a large hot tub on the porch on the side of the house.

A lot of work... you may say. Yes! But we are thrilled to turn it into an intimate retreat. Our immediate family would use it often enough to make it worth our time and money. Warren and I look forward to working together in making this home an adorable cabin and to the day it is finally done. It will take some time...but it's all fun!
