auf Wiedersehen {goodbye}

This morning our family is making the final preparations for our weekend getaway. We are thrilled to get out of dodge!! A couple hours from now we are driving up north to the White Mountains near the Show Low, Arizona area. My husband- Warren-grew up on a very large ranch near there and we enjoy visiting and hanging out at least once a year. All of Warren's immediate family are long gone- and only a few remnants of extended family live on the ranch. Still, it is a place of retreat because there is a furnished common 'rec center' that is for all family members to use. This is where we will be staying. We are bringing our friends, The Eatons, with us. They have 6 children and we have 5. The rec center is large enough to fit all 15 of us comfortably.

Also, this weekend is 'General Conference' - a most wonderful time of year! We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints - aka LDS or Mormon. If you are not an LDS reader what this means: A semi-annual conference for all members of our church. At this time the leaders of our church give talks about doctrine, current issues, scriptures etc. It is broken up into two hour segments, with two segments on Saturday and two on Sunday. The conferences are televised world wide. The fall conference is this weekend, October 6 & 7 and because of that we don't attend our regular church meetings. If interested in knowing more about our religion visit: LDS.org

We are packing one of our T.V.'s and DVD players from home in order to watch conference and movies this weekend since the rec center doesn't have one. The ranch is nestled on many acres where children can roam free as the wind. Also, there are a few 4 wheelers to ride, a zip line and a large covered BBQ pit with wood tables and benches. My friend Paulette and I will be towing our scrapbook stuff as well to play with while we watch/listen to conference.

As an avid photographer, to my families' demise, I will be taking many snap shots of our weekend experience. I will post them on our family blog sometime next week. I will provide a link to that blog then.

I hope you have an exciting and happy weekend too! Until next time...auf Wiedersehen. {goodbye}

Hope you had a great time! (by the time you read this you'll probably be home, eh?)

One note--it's a semi-annual conference. Bi-annual would mean every other year, once every two years.

Tea- Thanks for the best wishes. We did have a great time and got your message after returning home :) And ooops! You're right...semi-annual it is. I changed it.

Kday- I was referring to who was living on the ranch. Warren's immediate family is long gone and only some remnants of extended family remain on the ranch. It wasn't too cold except on Friday night- the wind was blowing very hard. It's always a nice getaway to head to the White Mountains.

Yes, Paulette...I know another Paulette who happens to be in my ward and is one of my best friends.

What's interesting to me is that 'Paulette' isn't a really popular name and for me to know 2 of them is pretty cool! :)
